| | Project Selection | Sure, this class is called Create a Greeting Card but it's also about learning how to do desktop publishing. And one of the first steps is deciding what you are going to create and the specific form it will take. This step of the process equates to the Design Phase of desktop publishing. Before you even open up your software program you draw a few sketches, fold a few pieces of paper, and decide what you think you want your greeting card or other project to look like. For a simple greeting card, this step may not take long. For other projects you'll probably spend a lot of time drawing sketches, thumbing through magazines for inspiration, or looking at font samples. This is Lesson 2 in the 9-Day Create a Greeting Card Class. If you did not receive or lost Lesson 1, retrieve it here: Missing Lessons< /a> | | | Definitions | Types of Projects Beyond greeting cards, look at just a few of the other types of projects you might want to tackle. | | | Instruction | Why a Greeting Card? Even if you know that a greeting card is what you want to create, it's still important to answer these questions about your project and who will see it. The bonus material is an article entitled What are you going to design? which provides a little more coverage of this topic. If you are interested in freelance desktop publishing as a source of income, I strongly encourage you to take just a few minutes to review the bonus material (linked at the end of the Instruction page). | | Assignment | Meet Grandma Baker Here's where you'll meet Grandma Baker. She's going to create a greeting card and we'll be following along with her throughout the rest of this course. You can create a greeting card similiar to the one Grandma Baker is making or one of your own choosing. The concepts covered with Grandma's card will still apply to yours. | DTP Classroom Join us in the classroom forum to discuss the types of projects created with desktop publishing software and how you decide what it is you are going to create. If you want, we can even debate top-fold vs. side-fold cards and other layout issues. | | | | | | Missing a lesson? Click here.
