| Lesson 7: All Caps  | STOP SHOUTING
There is nothing wrong with capital letters. They are great for starting sentences, indicating proper names, and for use in some abbreviations and acronyms. There is nothing wrong with decorative fonts and script fonts. They can create a mood that is fun, elegant, casual, playful, or scary. The problem is that the two don't play well together. Stop shouting. Online TYPING IN ALL CAPS is considered shouting and is frowned on in most cases. In print, shouting is never worse than when it is done with decorative or script typefaces. It's ugly. It's hard to read. Just don't do it, PLEASE!

Small caps, mentioned in today's lesson, are smaller versions of capital letters. Small caps are often used in place of fullsize capitals for abbreviations and acronyms within regular text because they look nicer, less obtrusive.
