From Jennifer Kyrnin, your Guide to Web Design / HTML
IE 9 came out last week, and Firefox 4 comes out officially today. The browser war may be over, but you still need to pay attention to web browsers when you're building your web pages. And Internet Explorer still has the largest market share, so it's not a browser you can ignore for most sites. Plus this week I talk about a controversial subject - dating web content. I don't do it for the majority of my articles, and I have specific reasons why.

A free class is a great way to learn new web design techiques. I have classes on HTML, Web Design, CSS, and even XML. Check out all the free web development classes offered on my site and other About.com sites.

Internet Explorer is an Important Part of Web Design Work
I do my work on a Macintosh computer, but I have two virtual machines running Windows on it so that I can do testing and evaluation of web designs in Internet Explorer. IE may not have the majority share of the browser market, but it still has the largest share (around 40-45% in January 2011). And so if I ignore it, I am not doing my sites or my customers any favors. Learn more about this browser and how to use it to design web pages in my latest article.

Don't Put Dates On Your Web Content
Web pages live for a long time, but putting a date on it makes it immediately look older than a similar article that has no date. Find out why I don't put dates on my articles even though I am asked periodically to do so.

Learn About Compatibility View in IE 8 and 9
Compatibility view is a new feature in IE 8 that allows this browser to change how it renders web pages to emulate previous, less standards compliant versions of the browser. And you may have customers who have set up IE to display all web pages in compatibility view rather than standards view, which can affect how your pages will look.

Poll: Where do you use CSS for your web designs?
A few years ago, I hosted a poll asking where people use CSS and I am curious if the usage has changed. Where do you use CSS in your web designs? Vote Now View Results
