1. Make hatching in AutoCAD easy

Hatching can sometimes be frustrating, so I've collected a few hatching tips together, including links to other tips. Think of the collection as your personal hatching helper. The tip covers:

  • Creating user-defined hatches
  • Starting the HATCH command
  • Defining the enclosed area properly
  • Controlling hatch origin and managing islands
  • Considering hatches in paper space
  • A secret for easy selection of hatched objects

2. Creating custom hatch patterns

This is an older tip, but do you know how to create your own hatch patterns? It's an important skill! This feature has been around for many years.

Hatch patterns are stored in files with a file extension of .pat. You can add your hatch to the default acad.pat or create your own .pat file. As always, don't forget to make a copy of acad.pat or acadlt.pat before you edit it.
