The Brainfart Heard Around the World!

Not sure if you caught the GOP debate last
night but if you did, you witnessed what
was surely one of the most embarrassing
speaking moments in modern history.

We don't have TV in our home, but I
watched the highlights of the debate on
the internet last night and it was
PAINFUL!

Governer Rick Perry tried to name the 3
government departments he would get rid of
and he simply could not remember the 3rd.

It turned out to be the Dept. of Energy (I
wonder what the conversation is like
around the water cooler at the Dept. of
Energy today. LOL)

If you had any heart, you couldn't help
but feel sorry for the man during this
little memory lapse.

I certainly did. I've been there!

I've had a brainfart on stage, and it's
terrifying.

Unfortunately, I think this moment will
kill his chances of moving on, just like
the little "Tarzan yell" crushed Howard
Dean's chances of being nominated in the
previous election.

The BIG Public Speaking Lesson
___________________________________

One of the things I've always tried to
avoid when public speaking is LISTS.

I try to NEVER say stuff like, "There are
five things you should always remember..."

UNLESS...

I know those 5 things cold, cold, cold...

OR...

I'm reading from a teleprompter or
powerpoint presentation.

Last night's debate showed what can happen
when you have a brain freeze while public
speaking.

And as I've said, I've had my own brain
freeze's on stage.

They are absolutely frightening.

The surest way to avoid a brain freeze on
stage is...

1. To KNOW your material like the back of
your hand.

and...

2. Practice your material over and over
again so that it's second nature to you.

I will never try to "wing it" on stage.
Even for short, 5 minute speeches, I
always prepare something in advance.

BE PREPARED!

If you're not, you might just find
yourself in the uncomfortable spot that
Rick Perry did last night...and it wasn't
pretty.

Here's an interview that we did with Paul
Evans, who in my humble opinion, is one of
the best speakers I've ever heard, in
which he trains you on how to perfect your
speaking skills.

It's a great interview. Buy it!

Have a great day!!!
